TRP #009: Promises Like Unsown Seed

Prayer + 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Hey friends, welcome to this week’s issue of The Remnant Post!

In Genesis, we see that God’s desire before the fall was to partner with man to bring about spreading his glory into all the earth.

Even after the fall, we see all through scripture this desire God seems to have to partner with his people.

Then as the resurrected Jesus is describing what’s next to his disciples, giving them the great commission prior to his ascension, He reiterates his choice to partner with people.

Jesus in teaching his disciples to pray, tells them to pray “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”. Which appears to clearly state that God’s will isn’t always being done on the earth and that it’s often through prayer that God will bring His will to pass.

E.M. Bounds shares a similar thought:

“God’s promises lie like giant corpses without life, only for decay and dust, unless men appropriate and vivify these promises by earnest and prevailing prayer.

Promises are like the unsown seed, the germ of life in it, but the soil and culture of prayer are necessary to germinate and culture the seed.

Prayer is God’s life-giving breath. God’s purposes move along the pathway made by prayer to their glorious designs. God’s purposes are always moving to their high and benignant ends, but the movement is along the way marked by unceasing prayer. The breath of prayer in man is from God.”

I hope you’ll find this as an encouragement to continue to develop a life of persistent prayer, in pursuit of seeing God’s will come to pass.

Remember, the spirit of prayer falls on the life of prayer. The “spirit of prayer” is that deep awareness and confidence that develops in us. It’s where we know that we are in partnership with God and we develop a deeper hunger and desire for more and more prayer.

Prayer Prompt of the Week:

Father, thank you for your desire to partner with me. You didn’t want robots or mindless beasts, but you wanted to partner with living men to bring your will to pass in all the earth. Please, Holy Spirit, give me a fresh hunger and desire to pray. Help me to be consistent and persistent in prayer, even if the motivation and hunger are not yet there.

In Jesus name, Amen.

Friends, did you know that One Hope puts out a prayer guide each month with specific topics and prayer requests for our city? They’re broken down into different categories like church, family, first responders, government, etc.
