TRP #002: Master-Workmen of a Prayer Partnership

1 John 4:19

Hey friends, welcome to this week’s issue of The Remnant Post!

I just spent the last 4 days in New York City with my oldest son at a prayer conference and man, was it life-changing. We left filled, encouraged, strengthened, and experienced a huge move of God amidst hundreds of people! Such a cool experience for a 7-year-old boy to have.

We attended the conference because we’ve been feeling this profound stirring towards prayer over the last couple of years - hence the birth of The Spark Network and this newsletter, The Remnant Post. But after personally experiencing the fruit of the hosting community’s consistent dedication to prayer over the last 6 years all coming to pass at this conference, we’re more emboldened than ever to cultivate a life of prayer and encourage others to do the same.

EM Bounds once wrote: “Let us seek to be adept in this great work of praying. Let us be master-workmen in this high art of praying. Let us be so in the habit of prayer, so devoted to prayer, so filled with its rich spices, so ardent by its holy flame, that ail heaven and earth will be perfumed by its aroma, and nations yet in the womb will be blessed by our prayers. Heaven will be fuller and brighter in glorious inhabitants, earth will be better prepared for its bridal day, and hell robbed of many of its victims, because we have lived to pray.”

One of the most important comments he makes here is “earth will be better prepared for its bridal day” and “hell robbed of many of its victims”.

The enemy loves to create confusion, disagreement, apathy, and separation in the Church around things that are most important and that display God’s power the most - prayer being one of the main subjects on his hit list.

Why? Because God chose to bring his will to pass through a prayer partnership (see the Lord’s Prayer). It’s through the prayers of God’s people that we are changed and transformed, and those in bondage are set free.

So let’s be a people who commit to prayer. Even if that’s only a few extra minutes per week - aim to continue to cultivate a life of prayer.

As a reminder from last week, that’s really what The Remnant Post is all about. Together each week - even if only for a couple of minutes, believers across the region will be aligned in prayer for:

  1. A sweeping move of God in our region

  2. Hearts of those who don’t yet know Him to be awakened

  3. Welfare and prosperity of our region

  4. Any local topic of importance - such as what’s happening at City Hall, in our schools, in legislation, etc.

Prayer Prompt of the Week:

Heavenly Father, you love us and you love this city. You are the initiator of love, and you created us to walk with you, as you show us in Genesis 1 and 2. We thank you for your initiation and pursuit of us. Help us to gather, worship, pray, and love one another in response to your love and not out of an act of the will.

Lord you know the needs of this city better than we do, so we humbly ask that you would begin to speak to all of our hearts about the specific things you wish to come to pass in Eugene. Would you impart to us your heart for our community and then impart very specifically your intent for it, so that we can partner with you in prayer for those to come to pass in our generation?

We ask these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Verse of the Week:

Our prayer lives must be cultivated in response to His love for us. He’s the initiator and He wants intimate time to connect with His people. A prayer life birthed for any other reason will lend towards impotence, and frustration.
