SP #016: Your Kingdom Come
The greater work
Quote of the Week:
“Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.”
— Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest
Scripture Passages:
1. “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10)
2. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)
3. “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.” (1 Corinthians 4:20)
Food For Thought:
When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He began with the kingdom. This wasn’t just a theological concept; it was a rallying cry for hearts to align with God’s reign here and now and the process of kingdom reality coming to pass over time. In Matthew 6:33, we’re called to prioritize His kingdom above all else, trusting that He will provide everything we need.
The kingdom of God is not about lofty words or distant ideals. As Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 4:20, it’s about power—transformative, Spirit-led power that changes lives, homes, cities, and nations. When we pray “Your kingdom come,” we’re asking for God’s rule to invade every part of our reality.
What would it look like for our prayers to consistently align with God’s kingdom purposes? Imagine the fruit of lives and communities surrendered to His will—a glimpse of heaven on earth.
Prayer Prompt:
Father,
We pray as Jesus taught: let Your kingdom come, and Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Align our hearts with Your reign. May Your justice, peace, and love break into every area of our lives and our world. Help us to seek Your kingdom first, trusting that You will provide. Empower us to live as ambassadors of Your kingdom, reflecting Your power and grace to those around us.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Worship Song of the Week:
This song is a powerful anthem of surrender and expectation, perfectly capturing the heart of praying for God’s kingdom to come.
Engagement Challenge:
Spend this week meditating on Matthew 6:10. Make it a daily habit to pray specifically for God’s kingdom to come in one specific area: your family, church, workplace, or city. Invite others to join you in seeking God’s will for these places.
