SP #015: Why Satan trembles

Which "Christian activities" does Satan actually care about?

Quote of the Week:

“Satan dreads nothing but prayer. His one concern is to keep the saints from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, he mocks our wisdom, but he trembles when we pray.”

— Samuel Chadwick

Scripture Passages:

1. “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16)

2. “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

3. “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.” (2 Corinthians 10:3-4)

Food For Thought:

Samuel Chadwick highlights to us of a sobering consideration: It’s possible based on what the scriptures seem to suggest, that Satan does not fear our activity, intellect, or resources. His only concern is prayer, because prayer is the battlefield where God’s power is unleashed against the kingdom of darkness.

James 5:16 declares that prayer is both powerful and effective. It’s the tool God has given us to resist the devil (James 4:7) and to wage war with divine weapons (2 Corinthians 10:3-4). When we pray, heaven moves, and Satan trembles.

But prayerlessness leaves us vulnerable—our work becomes hollow, our wisdom futile, and our religion powerless. Chadwick’s words are a call to arms for the church: if we want to see strongholds broken, lives transformed, and revival ignited, we must reclaim our place on our knees. The devil knows this, and he will do everything in his power to distract us. Will we heed the call to prayer?

Prayer Prompt:

Lord,

Teach us to pray with boldness, conviction, and persistence. We submit ourselves to You, and in Your power, we resist the enemy. We ask for Your divine weapons to demolish strongholds in our lives, our churches, and our cities. May our prayers be filled with faith, focused on Your kingdom, and fueled by the knowledge that You are victorious. Stir our hearts to take up the mantle of prayer, knowing that Satan trembles when we do.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Worship Song of the Week:

This song reminds us that the greatest battles are fought and won in prayer, surrounded by God’s presence.

Engagement Challenge:

Identify one area where you sense spiritual resistance—whether in your personal life, family, or community. Dedicate focused prayer to this area every day this week. Pray Scripture over it, declare God’s promises, and watch as strongholds begin to fall.
