SP #014: The Spirit of Prayer
God comes where he's wanted
Quote of the Week:
“The spirit of prayer is the spirit of revival. Where God’s people pray, there is always fresh fire.”
— Andrew Murray, With Christ in the School of Prayer
Scripture Passages:
1. “They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.” (Acts 1:14)
2. “And when the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.” (Acts 2:1)
3. “Do not quench the Spirit.” (1 Thessalonians 5:19)
Food For Thought:
The early church was born in a prayer meeting. Before the Holy Spirit descended on Pentecost, the disciples were united in constant, fervent prayer (Acts 1:14). Their prayers created space for the Spirit to move in power, igniting a fire that would spread across the known world.
Revival begins where the spirit of prayer dwells. Andrew Murray calls us to recognize that the fire of revival is sparked by our willingness to seek God together. But it doesn’t end with the gathering—it must overflow into our lives. The Spirit will not move in a church that quenches the Spirit by ignoring prayer.
Imagine what would happen if we returned to this kind of unity in prayer—a people so devoted to seeking God that His presence would fall fresh on us, bringing repentance, renewal, and boldness to proclaim the gospel. This is the spirit of prayer: a hunger for God that consumes everything else.
Prayer Prompt:
Holy Spirit,
Fill us with the spirit of prayer. May we, like the early church, be unified in seeking Your presence, expecting Your power, and creating space for You to move. Revive in us a hunger for You that quenches all other desires. Lord, let us not quench Your Spirit but invite You into every part of our lives and our communities. May we see a fresh outpouring of Your Spirit in our time.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
