TRP #003: The Blessing Of The Upright

Proverbs 11:11

Hey friends, welcome to this week’s issue of The Remnant Post!

A quick reminder before we dive in - with our goal of aligning believers across the city to pray together to see a move of God in our time, would you be willing to share The Remnant Post with just 1 or 2 other believers in our area this morning? Thank you!

If this is your first time reading and someone sent this to you, the above ask is probably why! You can subscribe here. If you live in Lane County, please continue to share The Remnant Post with other believers. 🙂

I moved to Eugene when I was only 5 years old and have spent about 30 years of my life here apart from the years I was in the military and in Texas for work.

Growing up here it was easy to become disheartened with the way this region has changed. It has a whole plethora of challenges it didn’t have when I first moved here.

Unfortunately, I had allowed my perspective to become bitter and frustrated. This bitterness and frustration turned into idle words about my city and state.

During our time in Texas for the last 2 years, the Lord began to show us how powerful our words are and remind us to speak life into our home state and hometown.

Then a little over a week ago, I was at a prayer conference and God brought me under powerful conviction that all of those years of idle words were actually cursing my city. I spent time in tears and repentance and asked the Lord in his mercy to undo the impact of the words I had spoken and constantly remind me that I need to be speaking life.

Last night our family was reading Proverbs 11 during dinner and it jumped off the page to me. Proverbs 11:11 reads “Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed”.

The mission of The Spark Network isn’t just to gather together people to pray for their city but it’s also an invitation to take on a love for the city and the people of the city. To love our city well. To speak about it the way one might speak about their own children - with words of life, even when it’s gone awry.

Prayer Prompt of the Week:

Father, we repent of all idle words we’ve ever spoken about our city and region and ask that you would break off the effects of these curses and that you would put words of life into our mouths so that we may build up our city and see it exalted through our blessings. Lord your word in Malachi 1:11 says, “My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to me, because my name will be great among the nations,” I pray that by your Spirit we would be mindful of your greatness and majesty, that you’re seated on the throne in heaven, and that we come to worship you with clean hands and a pure heart only through the atoning work of Christ, and Christ alone. And in turn, we would send up to you incense and pure offerings of praise that are well received.

In Jesus name, Amen!
